If you decide to take a motorcycle road test with your own motorcycle, here are 8 points you should look out for before taking the test:

1. Motorcycle licence

One to two week(s) prior to the road test, check to make sure the color of your used motorcycle matches the color description shown on the vehicle registration document while also check for the expiry date. Moreover, apply for a motorcycle color change or license renewal as soon as possible at the Transport Department if required.

2. Don’t use a modified motorcycle

It is of utmost importance to take the road test with an unmodified vehicle as some modified parts may not be eligible for the test. Your examiner has the right to request a mechanical examination of your motorcycle after the road test if they suspect of any illegal modification.

3. Safety checks

Make sure your motorcycle is in good working order and check whether warning lights, reflectors, instruments and other parts are functioning properly before the road test.

4. Check the tires

According to the Transport Department, the required minimum tread depth is 1mm throughout at least three quarters of the breadth of tread. Tires should also be properly inflated to an optimal tire pressure as low tire pressure can be dangerous on the road.

5. Dash cam

Recording is forbidden in motorcycle road test therefore remove it or cover it with black tape before attempting road test.

6. Protective helmet and goggles

Choose a protective helmet that fits your head size and furthermore, the color of the lenses should not be too dark as they may interfere with your view on the road.

7. “Diver on test” plate

“Driver on test” plate must be firmly attached to the vehicle and it should not obstruct the sight of headlamp, tail lamp, warning lights and the licence plate. Use additional plastic cable tie for extra strength.

8. Motorcycle insurance

A valid vehicle insurance is mandatory when buying a vehicle and choosing one with learner’s licence coverage is crucial. Remember to bring along the original policy to the test.

HoldCover offers a full range of motorcycle insurances for drivers with learner’s licence, probationary licence or a full driving licence.
