There are two types of Car Insurance: Third-Party Liability Car Insurance and Comprehensive Car Insurance.

Most of the Third-Party Liability Car Insurance policies provide two types of protections:
(i) cover for legal liability for bodily injury or death to a third party in the event of an accident, the minimum coverage required by law is HK$100,000,000;
(ii) cover for accidental property damage to a third party, although it is not a legal requirment, some insurers may offer coverage of HK $2,000,000.

Comprehensive Car Insurance Comprehensive Insurance protects you against accidental loss or damages to your car on top of Third Party Liability. The coverage of comprehensive Car Insurance may include:
The make, model, year and performance of your car; and the driving record, driving experience, age, occupation, and No Claim Discount (NCD) of all named drivers will be considered when calculating your Car Insurance premium. The market value of your car will also be considered when applying for a comprehensive Car Insurance policy.
Your car must not be used for business purposes such as ride-hailing service and racing.
